The Begining

In the early 1980s, a young man named Kostas Konstantinidis arrived in America with nothing but a staple puller and a dream.

Born and raised in Athens, Kostas had honed his craft from a young age by apprenticing at a local upholstery shop in his neighborhood.

Kostas began his apprenticeship by performing basic tasks such as sweeping the floors and bringing coffee to his boss, Nikos Mailis. He credits Mailis with introducing him to the world of upholstery and inspiring him to pursue his passion.

When he arrived in America, Kostas was quick to find work as a fry cook at a local Burger King. However, as he stood and looked at the uniform hanging in his closet, he knew that this was not the future he had envisioned for himself. As fate would have it, he skipped his first day on the job. In fact, he headed right to the upholstery bench instead.

Taking a Chance

Fortunately, a friend named Savvas, connected Kostas to a local upholsterer who ended up giving him his first opportunity to work as a craftsman on American soil.

It was a humble beginning, but it was a start, and Kostas worked hard to prove himself. Outside of work, he knocked on doors and offered to upholster pieces for anyone who would give him a chance. Every spare moment was spent honing his upholstery skills and building his understanding of the trade.

Making of Lousso

In 1982, he opened his own upholstery shop in a basement on Langley road in Newton. This was the first home of Lousso Designs.

As the years passed, Kostas’ reputation grew, and he quickly became one of the most sought-after upholsterers in the area. In addition to the basement workshop, he added an office, and eventually moved to a bigger space in Canton, Massachusetts.

Kostas’ craftsmanship, attention to detail, and passion for creating one of a kind pieces attracted skilled trades people to join his team. Together, the team was able to refine their craft as they continued to work with residential and commercial clientele alike.

Lousso eventually began attracting the likes of highly talented interior designers who would collaborate with the team to create distinctive furniture art. Their creativity, combined with Kostas’ skill, created an unbeatable recipe for immaculate interior design.

Looking Ahead

Fast forward four decades, and Kostas is now joined by his son Yanni, along with a talented team of craftsmen who share his vision and passion for creating beautiful, custom furniture. Yanni, having grown up immersed in the world of design, has helped evolve Lousso Designs into a forward-thinking custom furniture company, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation.

With the support of their dedicated team and loyal customers, Lousso Designs continues to transform Boston with inspiring, timeless furniture pieces. We're excited to carry this legacy forward, creating high-quality, bespoke designs for many years to come.
